Chantal is or also known as the Crazy Knitter.
She started knitting as a hobby 24 years ago while on maternity leave with her second child.
After a car accident rendered her bed ridden she took up knitting to keep herself sane and a crazy knitter was born.
Now she spends her days in Cornwall Ontario knitting for others. If she is not selling items at live events or online from her Etsy shop and website, She is driving (well the hubby is driving and she is knitting) around SD&G picking up handmade items made by her little army of crafters to deliver these items where they are needed. She is all about knitting. "If she sits she knits." In her spare time from making Cornwall and area is warm she take many classes at Tri-County Literacy Council or her nose is in a book because she believe in continuously learning.
After the car accident rendered her bed ridden for 2 years her passion for knitting was born(before the accident it was just a hobby) She had gathered up a huge pile of scarves and hats so she started selling on Etsy.
Once the piles grew more than she could sell this happened,
She (with the help of her husband) started Warm Up Cornwall after a Christmas parade where they ran into a family with a mom about to leave because the children did not grab their winter gear and they gave them some new stuff they had just purchased(scarves and hats were always plentiful as she made them at the time) for their children so the kids would not miss out on the parade.
Once they got home she ran into a post on Facebook about some people "dressing" statues in Ottawa and thought to herself she could do something like that here, and with some brainstorming the hubby and her started Warm Up Cornwall. She has been making scarves and hats a plenty for sale at the time but then decided to purchased gloves to make sets and started leaving them around different areas in town.
Then they expanded from that to drop off to the food bank and various other places. After 2 winters they were contacted by the Red Cross to take over a program that provided hats and mittens to the schools in all of the four school boards in SD&G and different nursing homes in the area received lapghans, shawls and other things. The pandemic slowed down the distribution of items at the schools but they have still been actively working with a small army of knitters to keep delivering the items at various places.
